One of the biggest things in the esthetician world for some time now is microdermabrasion. Not only is it something we teach at our esthetician school, but it’s also something we generally provide during each of our facials (both student and professional facials).

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses a special device to exfoliate and remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the face, neck, or other parts of the body. The procedure involves using a handheld device that directs a stream of tiny crystals or a diamond-tipped wand onto the skin, which helps to slough off the dead skin cells.

Microdermabrasion can be used to address a variety of skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, age spots, hyperpigmentation, and rough or uneven skin texture. By removing the outermost layer of skin, microdermabrasion also helps to stimulate collagen production, which can improve the overall health and appearance of the skin.

The treatment is relatively painless and typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. Most people experience little to no downtime after microdermabrasion and can return to their regular activities immediately following the procedure.

Microdermabrasion is generally considered a safe and effective treatment for most skin types, but it’s important to discuss your skincare concerns and goals with a licensed skincare professional to determine if this treatment is right for you.
